How can a mural add to the energy and identity of an indoor community pool?
(Self initiated conceptual study)
I swim at the Berkeley YMCA almost every day, and over time I became increasingly inspired by the colors, shapes, repetition, and character of the pool environment. The existing vinyl artwork brings motivational energy to the space, while a series of alternating smooth and textured wall panels creates an architectural rhythm that subtly echoes the character of tiles at the pool and in the locker rooms.
Swimming here is a daily reset for me. I always leave in a better mood. That personal connection inspired this series of mural concepts, designed for the currently empty panels (two to the right of the existing one and one to the left) to build upon the existing character of the pool and make the space feel even more energetic, playful, and uplifting.
